Tony Volpe for President

Integrity, dedication, and fortitude are attributes I will pledge as President of CUPE 389.

Having worked on the North Shore in the municipal sector for nearly 30 years, my depth of experience with our union has been extensive. Fifteen years ago, I became a Shop Steward then later attained the positions of Outside Rep. for the District of North Vancouver and Union Delegate.  For the past 4 years I’ve held the position of 2nd Vice President, while working as a Supervisor in the Streets department of the DNV.  My achievements and considerable experience in all these positions has naturally paved the way to my current aspiration for President.

I have a reputation for unfailing determination for justice in the workplace.  I have been involved in countless grievances and accommodations, strategized in bargaining sessions and labour management meetings. Also, I have mediated member to member conflicts with success.  My record is unparalleled, my dedication is resolute and my passion for a fair and just workplace is uncompromised.

As the husband of an amazing and supportive wife and father to two wonderful children, I understand the needs of individuals who desire to work well and thrive. I believe that the success of our local is the responsibility of the President and the Officers. That is why I am committed to always doing my absolute best to fight for the rights of our members, who make this Local so special. If elected President, I will diligently pursue the rights of members and commit to stand firmly in that promise.

Leading CUPE 389 successfully means having a strong cohesive team, the support of Officers, and the trust of the membership.  To all 10 units, I will deliver on this pledge, and further ask you to consider electing the team presented in these pages at our Annual General Meeting on January 28.
